Intumescent Painting
Intumescent painting is a type of fire protection coating that is applied to surfaces, particularly structural elements like steel or wood, to increase their resistance to fire. The term “intumescent” refers to the material’s ability to swell or expand when exposed to heat, forming a protective char layer that insulates the underlying substrate and delays its involvement in the fire.
It is commonly used in construction to enhance the fire resistance of structural elements, especially in buildings where fire safety is a critical concern. It is an important component of passive fire protection, which aims to limit the spread of fire and smoke without the need for active firefighting measures.
Fire Curtains
Fire curtains are important components in fire safety systems, particularly in commercial and residential buildings. They play crucial roles in preventing the spread of fire and smoke, protecting occupants, and minimising property damage.
Fire curtains are mineral fibre barriers these are normally 50/60 mm thick and are hung vertically and supported to the head or soffit. If a fire was to occur, gaps between the walls and floor can create air which can enable the spread of the fire or smoke.
Fire Stopping
Fire protection through fire stopping employs materials and techniques to create barriers, preventing the rapid spread of fire and smoke within buildings. These measures enhance safety by compartmentalising spaces, limiting damage, and allowing for the safe evacuation of occupants during emergencies.
Cavity Barriers
Cavity barriers are typically made of fire-resistant materials and are installed within the concealed spaces to inhibit the passage of flames and smoke.
These barriers protect lives and property by preventing the rapid advancement of fire within structures.
Board Encasements of Structural Steel
Board encasement refers to the process of covering structural steel members with a protective layer or enclosure, often using boards or panels. This is done for various reasons, including fire protection, aesthetic considerations, and to enhance the structural performance of the building.
Intumescent Mastic/Acoustic Sealing
Intumescent mastic/acoustic sealing is a fire-resistant material applied to joints and gaps in buildings. When exposed to heat, it expands to form a protective seal, restricting fire and smoke spread. This versatile solution enhances fire safety and acoustic performance in construction.
